Policy Statement

The National Basketball League of Canada (“NBLC”) requires that all NBLC employees and attendees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, allowing for at least 14 days to pass since receiving their final dose prior to the commencement of the upcoming NBLC season and/or attending any NBLC event.

This policy applies to all individuals that wish to attend any and all NBLC training camps, practices and games. This also applies to those who play in the league, including players, coaching staff, trainers, team and league staff members, officials, league and team volunteers, reporters and media, etc.

Along with the vaccination policy, the NBLC is also enforcing a mask mandate for all attendees and personnel that are 15 foot radius from the home and visiting team benches and court. Following the government’s public safety guidelines, masks will be made mandatory at all times except while actively eating and/or drinking. 

Reason for Policy

As we move to make our long awaited return to the court and celebrate our 10th season in fan filled stadiums, the health and safety of our teams and fans is a top priority. By following these protocols, we aim to manage and address all safety concerns that may arise as we deal with the ongoing circumstances.

These policies are necessary to protect all participants and attendees, both on and off the court, due to the close contact nature and closed-off indoor spaces many and most NBLC events will take place in.

While we encourage social distancing whenever possible, we understand that it cannot always be achieved which is a reason why we have these policies in .

Vaccination Requirements and Records

All NBLC staff, teams, and attendees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and must be able to present sufficient evidence and records of vaccination. Acceptable proof of vaccination will support that the individual has received two doses of an approved vaccine at least 14 days prior to their attendance or participation at any NBLC game, training event, practice, etc.

Acceptable Vaccines and Documentation

The NBLC recognizes all vaccines that are approved by Health Canada and/or the World Health Organization. All attendees, participants, and staff must be able to confirm their full complete vaccination status regardless of the approved vaccines they have received.

As vaccine confirmation is required, the accepted confirmation documents are:

• A digital copy of the complete vaccination record
• A physical copy of the complete dose administration receipt
• Medical records signed by a licensed physician/care provider that provides the holder’s name, name of vaccine, administration date, etc.

Reporting and Record Keeping

Any and all COVID-19 vaccination records and accommodations shown by attendees and NBLC employees/members will only be used, disclosed, or collected for legitimate purposes to protect the health and safety of everyone involved, as well as following government issued guidelines. All information will be kept confidential and secure to ensure privacy is maintained.

Testing Positive for COVID-19

Any individual who tests positive for COVID-19 must notify public health and immediately quarantine away from the team for a minimum of 10 days after the first positive test or onset of symptoms or produce 2 negative PCR tests at least 24 hours apart before they can resume any basketball related activities.

Any player who tests positive, even if asymptomatic, will not be allowed to exercise for a minimum of 10 days and then must be monitored in individual workouts for an additional two days.
