NBLC Season XI: Dexter Williams Jr.’s Greatest Hits

By Jack Ford

Dexter Williams Jr. has so far been a lifer for the Sudbury Five, having played in every season from their inception, and has seen his standing with the team increase year-on-year. After making the All-Defensive team last time out, this season his work on the defensive glass sees him stand above all else as Defensive Player of the Year.

His skills in guarding opponents and grabbing rebounds and second-chance points were a big reason why Sudbury were one of the most feared teams on defense in 2023. Here is a selection of Williams' best moments from throughout the season which best illustrate why he was the most deserving DPOY recipient.

January 7th vs Oakland County

Williams Jr. hit the ground running in 2023, coming off the bench against the Oakland County Pharaohs he registered the second-best score for Sudbury on the night with eighteen points, while also pulling down 11 total boards in just 26 minutes on the court. All the better for his use of lesser playing time.

March 9th vs Flint United

A great all-around showing from Williams Jr. here where he showcased his work ethic and effectiveness in all areas. His part in Sudbury's 26-point blowout of Flint was 12 points, nine total rebounds, seven assists and four steals - he was among the best in steals for 2023 and he made good on his ability to convert those steals into more points for the Five.

April 8th vs Windsor Express

Here Williams Jr. may not have been the most effective on offense, but showed why he was a dangerous presence on defense throughout the season. With eleven total rebounds he worked to contest every shot as well as creating plenty of second chance points for Sudbury - and it counted as they came away with the narrow win over the Windsor Express.
