Watson Returns to the Hurricanes

The Halifax Hurricanes are excited to announce the return of 6' 5" power forward Tyrone Watson for the 2018-19 season.

"Halifax is the best city to play in throughout the league from my experiences. The fans and community are well engaged so returning to the Hurricanes was an easy decision for me," says Watson. "We've built a solid foundation from the ground up over the years. I'm tired of being second - our time is NOW!"

Watson, a veteran in the league, returns for his fourth year with the Halifax squad.  He recorded 14 points per game, averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3 assists in the regular season but it was his performance in the playoffs that helped lead the Hurricanes into the league finals for a third consecutive year.  In the three rounds of the playoffs Watson averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds per game including 7 double doubles (points/rebounds) and one rare triple double (points/rebounds and assists).  As a result he was named to the National Basketball League of Canada All-Playoff team and was a 2nd team all-Canadian selection for the 2017-18 season.

"Tyrone exemplifies the type of Hurricane basketball that has led us to much success," says Head Coach Mike Leslie.  "He is tough, gritty, unselfish and a difficult matchup for teams at both ends of the floor.  An underrated defender, he usually ends up guarding the opposition's best player night in and night out and takes great pride in his defensive game.  As well, Tyrone is one of the hardest working players each and every day in practice.  He puts that same high energy effort into each practice as he does on game days which provides exemplary leadership and challenges teammates to match his work ethic."
